Data Visualization Reading and Videos

  • Data Visualization and Story Telling by Edward Segel
Talk by Edward Segel at the Jan 2012 KDMC digital storytelling workshop. Edward dissected his paper (written in collaboration with Jeffrey Heer) entitled "Narrative Visualization: Telling Stories with Data".
  • Spatial Data Visualization - Google Developers
Maps were among the first data visualizations, but they can also provide the backdrop for visualizing your own spatial data. In this session, we'll take a voyage through the world of map based data visualization, arming you with the tools you need to most effectively bring your data to life on a map...

D3.js Reading and Videos

  • d3-tip-rails
d3-tip-rails provides D3 Tip for Rails 3.1+ via the asset pipeline.
  • D3.js On Mobile Devices: TV Audience Webapp Demo
This Mobile Webapp is a proof-of-concept of mixing D3.js with a touch UI. The application shows TV audience and market shares for 8 TV channels across several days. The UI accepts touch gestures like tap to select, drag to scroll, pinch to zoom, and swipe to change day.
  • d3.sticker Plugin
d3.sticker is an API to create "stickers" from DOM elements that can then be repasted and manipulated. These examples show how you can dynamically create and remove icons using the d3.sticker API.

Hope that you had a great past week and that next week is even better!

Wishing you the best,
Sebastian Gutierrez
